Duckworth says she cannot support Fleck nomination over VA guardianship agreement concerns
Citing the case of a Navy veteran who died under a court-appointed guardian, Duckworth pressed Fleck on a VA-DOJ agreement allowing VA attorneys to initiate guardianship proceedings and declared she would oppose his confirmation.
“This is an inherent conflict of interest. The VA, the agency responsible for caring for veterans, is now also the agency empowered to ask a court to strip veterans of their legal autonomy.”
